In a cage of iron bars,
A parrot sings under the stars.
Its feathers are bright, its soul is eager,
No wall can claim what is felt and what is not seen.
Although it is bound in a cage,
Its heart beats, a steady flame.
In dreams, it flies in the open sky,
The truth of freedom is forever.
The cage may hold its earthly plane,
But not the eternal light of its soul.
Within its breast, so wide a world,
Where freedom is strong and fast.
So, dear bird, sing with all your might.
A song of your hope in captive misery.
In your heart, you rise free,
No cage can take away that freedom.
